A new great platform or a day?
Threads, a new social network Meta (a recognized extremist organization in Russia) based on the technologies and information base of Instagram (the social network is banned in Russia) was launched on July 6th.
We tell you what the new social platform is and what it is for.
What is Threads?
This is an analogue of Twitter, that is, a text-based social network aimed at discussing some events or opinions. Now the functionality is very limited – there is a feed of posts, formed from the user’s subscriptions, and random posts “on the topic” depending on the preferences of the person. You can like the posts themselves, start discussions and repost (the post itself or with a quote i.e. in your own words at the top). That’s all.
At the same time, the creators of Threads have already confirmed that one of the upcoming innovations will be the appearance of a separate post feed, consisting only of posts from accounts they are subscribed to, without any recommendations.

Now Threads is designed primarily for smartphones, but you can partially use its functionality in a browser on a PC.
Threads operates in Russia
Threads will not be blocked in Russia, despite the application developer’s status in the country. If you continue to comply with local laws, Roskomnadzor said.
Threads may operate in Russia subject to compliance with legal requirements.
Why the Twitter killer?
Since Elon Musk’s purchase of Twitter last fall, the social network and its visitors have seen a lot of shocks, so analogues began to appear almost every day. Threads has the highest chance of success today, but the chances of doing so are extremely slim as the Twitter phenomenon is hard to replicate.
Twitter stands out from all other social networks where celebrities sit there, whether they are football stars, basketball stars or actors, as well as journalists and opinion leaders. The peculiarity lies in the fact that they all communicate with each other on equal terms: a conditional Leonardo DiCaprio can easily answer a question from an ordinary person. In other social networks there is no such transparency, there is a huge wall between popular accounts and ordinary people, which Twitter does not have.
A vivid example: after the release of Guardians of the Galaxy 3, the director of the film, James Gunn, answered people’s questions on Twitter, not bypassing my question: did he manage to realize all his plans for the characters?
James Gunn answered our question.

However, the endless problems of Twitter have already tired many, so they are seizing on any opportunity to find a worthy alternative. Stars and journalists instantly create accounts on the new social networks, which, however, are quickly forgotten by everyone. However, the power of Instagram (banned in Russia) can give the right push to retain users. Can we know very soon?
What’s happening on Threads right now?
Yes, in general, nothing – the people themselves do not quite understand what you will do in the new social network, but it is already gaining a lot of popularity. In the first seven hours since launch, more than 10 million people signed up there, which is almost a record start for the new platform, even ChatGPT rolled out much more slowly.
After 15 hours, the audience increased to 30 million people.
