The Neural Network Moved the Characters of ‘Harry Potter’ to the World of Cyberpunk

Date: July 27, 2024 Time: 06:55:46

Reddit user r/NodaShogun combined the digital world of cyberpunk with the old-school world of Harry Potter using a neural network. By describing what they wanted to see, this neural network generated pictures that matched the description.

Though the user formulated their request for a task rather simply (for example, “Luna Lovegood cyberpunk”), all the characters from Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix were recognized in new images. Hermione Granger, Severus Snape, Albus Dumbledore, and Hedwig the owl appeared in various pictures. Ron Weasley was presented as three different characters simultaneously. He favored the commentators more than Harry. Although many commentators could recognize Hagrid and Draco Malfoy better than Harry Potter, his glasses distorted his facial features slightly.

Furthermore, Mid journey reimagined the sites from the books as a part of their project. These include familiar places like the castle, Quidditch pitch, platform 9 and ¾, and more.

The comments explored the idea that Harry Potter would be more suited to a cyberpunk aesthetic, with one commenter saying “the world of Harry Potter, where instead of magic there is a small society of people with scientific advances that they hide from the rest of the world.”

Michelangelo’s 1511 painting “The Creation of Adam” has been in the Sistine Chapel for 500 years. It was created with a DALL-E 2 neural network program, which is the technology that powers it.
