On July 11, a 45-year-old rural teacher received a phone call from a fake FSB officer. He said that his account was hacked and now criminals are stealing money from him. Therefore, a woman must contribute to the implementation of operational activities, otherwise she faces criminal liability. For added credibility, the person he called sent a WhatsApp photo of his “official ID.”
The Yakut woman agreed and was later contacted by an alleged Central Bank employee. He also sent the victim a “her ID” photo of her.
The teacher was forbidden to tell her relatives about what had happened and was forced to secretly come to Yakutsk from her family. There, despite the presence of relatives and acquaintances in the city, she rented a hotel room and in two days she issued two bank loans – for 800 and 420 thousand rubles. Then, through an ATM, she transferred 1.2 million rubles to the scammers. She was allowed to keep 20,000 for herself, saying they were “marked.”
“Only on the third day, when the “Central Bank employee” called the victim again to send her to another bank to request a loan, a resident of Tatta called his brother, told him about his misadventures and learned from him that he had become a victim of remote scammers,” the source told the Republican Police.
The department reminds that law enforcement officials and law enforcement agencies never take pictures of official IDs and do not share your sensitive data via instant messaging.
